Toyota marketing strategy in Japan is decidedly more absurd than in North America. For proof, look no further than this Wakudoki ad in which a group of uptight executives go on a musical adventure with a big ape.
The commercial starts with about a half dozen suits pulling over in the jungle so the CEO can relieve himself. Unfortunately, however, he appears to urinate on or near a fearsome gorilla. According to the car maker, is when your heart pumps with joy, and is the sound of your beating heart. Wakudoki, then, it the sound of your heart beating with happiness.
The whole thing is actually less about selling Toyota trucks than it is about encouraging people to make videos of themselves dancing to their wakudoki, all for the chance to win a trip to Tokyo or some Beats by Dre headphones. Capitalism makes no sense.
